From the chassis to the passenger cell – the intelligent combination of driving and lightwheight components enable the unparalleled dynamics of the BMW i3. Thanks to the fully-electric drive train BMW eDrive, the BMW i3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, without interruption.

The BMW i3s sprints even faster, with 6.9 seconds. The electric engine of the BMW i3 with a performance of 125 kW and a torque of 250 Nm provides emission-free driving pleasure for up to 200 km. The optional range extender switches on when the battery is low on charge, and can extend the range up to 330 km.

The Life module describes the modern passenger cell made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). Also often referred to as carbon, this material is not just particularly light but also stronger and more resilient than steel. The low weight and low-lying centre of gravity boost both agility and range.

FASHIONABLE, ALL-AROUND.

The exterior of the BMW i3 communicates agility from the very first glance. And it declares it in style. Dual-colour painted surfaces and short projecting edges are a model of modern design. The characteristic stream flow of the windows, which makes them appear as though they were a single surface, completes the appearance and provides a spacious panoramic view.

 

COMPLETE WITH INTEGRATED FREE SPACE.

The unique and spacious interior of the BMW i3 is palpable after just a single glance through the opened coach doors. The open, inviting design makes entry and loading simple and comfortable – without disregarding safety, since the closed doors assume the protective function of the B-pillar.

 

FASCINATING AT THE FIRST GLANCE.

The BMW i3 has "dynamic" written all over it. Its standard U-shaped LED headlights flank the symbol of the brand: the closed kidney. Below them, the bumper visually stretches out the front of the vehicle with large design turn signal lights and lends them an extremely powerful expressiveness in doing so.

 
 

TURN NIGHT INTO DAY.

The LED rear lights in the characteristic U-shape BMW i look include tail lights, brake lights and indicators. The light units also ensure good visibility in poor conditions and extend from the flanks right round to the tailgate. Reversing lights, rear fog lights and reflectors are integrated into the bumper on the right and left side.

 

BEAMING PRESENCE.

The particularly powerful front headlights utilise state-of-the-art LED technology for the low and high-beam headlights, side lights, daytime running lights and indicators. The road is better illuminated and objects at night appear in greater contrast. Headlight range control happens automatically. The side lights and daytime running lights come in a U-shape look. The high-beam headlights illuminate the road extremely brightly and evenly for several hundred meters.

 

MORE LIGHTNESS. MORE AGILITY.

As part of BMW's intelligent lightweight construction, the carbon roof made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) helps to reduce the car's mass, and shifts the car's centre of gravity lower. This leads to an increase in agility and dynamics when taking a bend, accelerating and braking.

Sustainability of the new BMW i3.

 

The BMW i3 embodies a new attitude towards mobility. It is based on a unified approach revolving around the vehicle at all stages, including development, production, and recycling. Many of the materials are made of renewable resources - and the BMW i3 is manufactured with 100% energy from renewable sources. Driving pleasure can't feel any better.

 
 

RECYCLING.

The BMW i3 is 95% recyclable. The battery module can be re-used as a storage receptacle for solar energy. And the surplus carbon fibres can be returned to the production process.

 

PRODUCTION.

Exceedingly sustainable: The carbon fibres used for the BMW i3 are manufactured entirely with hydroelectric power. Manufacturing at the BMW plant in Leipzig, Germany, is powered entirely with wind energy. And, compared to the other BMW models, only half of the energy needed for production is required.

 

DEVELOPMENT

The entire vehicle design was developed for electric mobility, from the ground up. While innovative aerodynamic measures reduce air resistance and energy consumption, sustainable and recycled materials protect the environment and replace traditional materials such as plastics.

 
 

INTERIOR TRIMS MADE OF EUCALYPTUS WOOD.

Eucalyptus has a natural silky grip and a natural pore structure, and therefore, it requires about 90% less surface processing than conventional types of wood. The eucalyptus wood used in the interior trim comes from plantations that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which ensures sustainable forestry practices.

 

SEATS MADE OF 40% VIRGIN WOOL.

Certified virgin wool is a renewable resource with a high level of comfort which is comprises up to 40% of the seat coverings in the interior design Lodge. The breathable wool blend regulates the temperature between the body and the seat surface in such a way that the seat remains cool at high temperatures.

 

ELEMENTS MADE OF NATURAL FIBRES.

Visibly sustainable: The extensive use of kenaf replaces petroleum-based plastics and reduces the weight of the BMW i3, because the kenaf fibres are up to 30% lighter than conventional material. They are harvested from malva plants, which convert CO2 into oxygen at an above-average rate.
